John Terry has been included in the England squad for the World Cup qualifying double-header against Moldova and Ukraine.

The Chelsea centre-back recently denied a Football Association charge of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand and the case is still ongoing.

But England boss Roy Hodgson has always maintained he would select Terry, who missed the friendly victory over Italy earlier in the summer, if fit.

The Three Lions head to Moldova for the first game on 7th September before returning to Wembley and the match with Ukraine on 11th September.

Birmingham City's young goalkeeper, Jack Butland, has also been selected after his debut against Italy, although Joe Hart is certain to remain as Hodgson's first choice.

Chelsea's Ryan Bertrand has kept his squad place, while Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is included after ending his self-imposed international exile against Italy.

There is, however, no place for Carrick's club-mate, Ashley Young, with Hodgson naming Arsenal pair Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott alongside Manchester City's James Milner and Sunderland's Adam Johnson as his potential wide-men.

Wayne Rooney's thigh injury has ruled out the United striker and so Hodgson has named Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck as his forwards.

England squad:
Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Birmingham City), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), John Terry (Chelsea), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Sunderland), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Forwards: Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).
