'We always had belief'

England striker Danny Welbeck was overjoyed at scoring the winning goal in England's win over Sweden on Friday night to put the Three Lions in with a chance of progressing beyond the group stages of EURO 2012.

The Manchester United striker produced a fantastically executed finish to put England 3-2 up in the second half and seal all three points for Roy Hodgson's men.

It had looked as though that would be a struggle, as Sweden produced a second-half comeback to take the lead after Andy Carroll's fine first-half header had put England in control.

But it was Welbeck's winner which will take all the plaudits, as he superbly flicked home Theo Walcott's cross.

"I am happy with the finish, it brings confidence to the team but I am disappointed to have let two goals in," said Welbeck.

"It was a game of two halves, we stuck together and team spirit shone.

"This is going to be better for us if we get three points from every game, we've always had the belief. We stuck together and team spirit shone through."

Welbeck was also full of praise for his team-mate Theo Walcott, who changed the game back in England's favour after his introduction as a substitute in the second half.

"Theo's ability has spread right across the squad, he made a difference and we're really happy for him," he added.

"We'll get back to Poland and get our recovery done, plan for Ukraine and look to get three points."
