Captain and defender pleased to see squad's strength in depth.

England captain John Terry hailed England's performance against World Champions Spain on Saturday and believes Fabio Capello's side is in a great position going into the 2012 European Championships.

The Chelsea man is poised to start against Sweden on Tuesday and knows he needs to play well to keep his spot in the side, as England have such strength in depth.

"It's really encouraging that younger players are coming in and establishing themselves and making an impact on the squad," he said.

"It's a great position for the manager to be in and for us to be in as a country, to see the younger players coming through."

Terry explained that not only do youngsters such as Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck have a great chance of participating at the tournament, but back-up for his position is also strong.

"The likes of Jags (Phil Jagielka) and Joleon (Lescott), who was excellent [against Spain] the other night, are fighting for places. Always as a player you feel pressure from younger players and players within the squad."

He added: "It's great for competition and keeps everybody on their toes and there's belief that players will get opportunities from the manager."
