AS JOHN Terry prepares to take to the pitch in England’s first World Cup game tomorrow his wife Toni has overcome a difficult year to become the first Wag to represent her country in sport.

The 28-year-old, who has twins aged four with footballer John, 29, has been chosen to ride dressage for the England international team.

And she tells us that while her husband is in South Africa with the rest of the squad trying to bring back the World Cup, she will be training six days a week.
Despite John’s own sporting success she says he is “extremely proud” of her.
Dressage began as a hobby for Toni, a devoted horse lover, when her children Georgie and Summer started nursery. But she soon found she was a talented rider.

She made her dressage debut last year, performing a presentation at the London International Horse Show at Olympia. She said at the time that it would be her dream to represent her country in the sport.

“My aim is to get to the top levels of dressage,” she revealed in October. “I’ve always worked and I feel strongly about having my own career. But I don’t want to come in and have an easy path. I want to work hard and deserve it.”
And now it seems her dream has come true as she will compete in a four-country tournament between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

“I am thrilled to be chosen to ride for England,” she tells Day & Night. John is of course extremely proud of me too. I have been training up to six days a week and all the hard work has paid off.”

John Terry's wife Toni gets England call-up too - but for the nation's dressage team

Toni Terry has certainly been keeping herself busy while husband John plays away in South Africa for the World Cup - she's been called up for the England team herself.

But rather than hoofing a ball around the pitch, Toni has been picked to ride dressage.
However, hopefully she'll perform better than love-rat husband John, 31, did in England's disappointing 1-1 draw against the USA on Saturday.
No ordinary WAG: Toni Terry has worked six days a week on her sport and will now represent England in the field of dressage

Toni 28, will be the first Wag to represent her nation in sport, all the more impressive as she only started to learn the equestrian discipline less than two years ago.

The mother of two will be competing in a four-country tournament between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales later this year.

She said: 'I am thrilled to be chosen to ride for England. John is of course extremely proud of me too...all the hard work has paid off."

Toni is not the only celebrity to get the bit between her teeth when it comes to dressage either.

atie Price has been training in the sport since at least 2006, so she may well be a bit miffed that she's been pipped at the post to compete for the nation.

The model also known as Jordan has made no secret of the fact she wants to represent Britain at the 2012 Olympics.

And even before these two glamour girls, Jemma Kidd represented Britain in the sport as a junior and started practising again last year.

Toni, meanwhile, threw herself into training earlier this year following the relevation that her Chelsea star husband, 29, had an affair with model Vanessa Perroncel, 33, the ex of his former teammate Wayne Bridge.

Although she'd ridden horses as a child, Toni only decided to take it up again in 2008 and began visiting the Oldencraig Equestrian Centre near the Terry family home in Surrey.

The centre specialises in dressage and Toni - cheating John's childhood sweetheart - began taking lessons from the riding school's resident expert, former Olympic rider and 16 times British champion Vicki Thompson.

Before long, Toni had bought her first horse Delmonte, followed by two more prime specimens - five-year-old stallion Beltoni and former dressage champion Diamond Fritz, each costing a five-figure sum.

Toni first went public with her talents before a sell-out crowd at the London International Horse Show at Olympia last December, where she performed a routine on horseback with her tutor Vicki to a Michael Jackson compilation - watched by friend and fellow Wag, Abi Clancy.
Toni said at the time: "My aim is to get to the top levels of dressage. I've always worked and I feel strongly about having my own career.
But I don't want to come in and have an easy path. I want to work hard and deserve it."

Toni's dad, Alan Poole, is also a keen rider and often accompanies his daughter to the riding school for a lesson.
