Chelsea and England captain John Terry sat down with Sport.co.uk to discuss England's 2018 World Cup bid, and why England have a good chance of landing the tournament. Terry sighted the impact of foreigners on the Premier League, the league's wide reaching appeal, and the standard of England's own fans as the three key factors in the Three Lions hopes of bagging the 2018 competition.

Terry told Sport.co.uk:

“I think what we do worldwide, the Premier League we play in, I think it is fantastic. And over the last ten years we have seen a massive improvement since the foreign players have come over to our country.

"I think it is important when you look at those kind of players coming to this country, and feeling so at home, signing long term contracts as well. So they are happy in our country, and that makes me feel at ease. England is a safe place to be, the football is great, the atmosphere is fantastic and they love the fans. And there is a great raport between fans and players across the country.

“I think it is important for the safety of fans, coming over to this country, fans from Spain, Germany, Italy, Ivory Coast, wherever it may be in the world, you come to London, or Manchester and they will feel very much at home.

“You go to another country and you want to be safe on the underground, and the public transport is very good as well. All these things put together, I think it gives us a very good cause."

Terry also looked at England's own fans as a shining light for why England deserves to host a World Cup:

“For ourselves as well, when I see our fans travel all over the world, giving us their full support, getting right behind the team. Player's from other countries as well, always speak about their fans being the twelth man, and we honestly mean that as a group of players, we don't just come out and say that.

"Our fans, and fans across the world are travelling paying an awaful lot of money to come and watch us play and give our support, and they really can make a difference because there are times in games when things don't go well for your team. And that is when you need the fans to get behind the team and get you through it. Which our fans always do,”
